For our Christmas 2001 holiday we went to Koh Samui Thailand (look here for tourist info). Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand and about 700km south of Bangkok. We stayed at the Amari Palm Reef Resort which is about 12km from the airport on the northeast side of the island. Overall we were very pleased with the resort and would consider staying there again.
We took Thai Airways to get there and spent one night in Bangkok prior to our onward flight to Koh Samui. |

What did we do during our stay? | Besides resting and relaxing at the resort we did the following during our stay:
- We rented motor scooters and drove around the island. Everything was going fairly well until Bill suggested they go offroad up into the hills. Unfortunately during this period we experienced torrential rains which made the dirt roads a muddy mess.
- We spent an afternoon at the Samui Butterfly Garden. It was well worth the price of admission and was fun walking amongst the butterflys in the big aviary.
- Another day we went to the Samui Tiger Zoo (see photo above where Bill and Kimberly were able to feed a baby tiger).
- Bill did some scuba diving with Discovery Divers which were located within the Amari resort. The diving around Koh Samui was mediocre at best but Koh Tao which was a short boat ride away was much better.
