During April 2004 we took a family vacation to the Wakatobi Dive Resort located on a remote island off the southeast tip of Sulawesi. Bill had previously gone to this resort in August 2003 to scout out the conditions before taking Anette and Kimberly. (see August 2003 trip here) On this trip we were joined by our friends the Rusch family (Paul, Dawn, Jayce and Leo) and Larry from Bill's office. The diving was fantastic, however, there was a storm a few weeks before our visit so the diving conditions were not quite as good as the previous August 2003 trip. Visibility generally varied between 10-25 meters versus 20-50 meters during the previous trip. In addition, there didn't seem to be as many critters out during this trip as compared to the previous trip. It was speculated that this may have been due to the storm and water temperatures being warmer pushing many critters down to deeper depths or staying hidden in the reef. In any event the diving was still good.
I did not submit a reader review to Undercurrent Travelin' Diver's Chapbook for this trip but you can read other recent Wakatobi visitors comments from the 2005 edition here. |

Trip Videos | Below are links to three short videos that I've compiled from this trip (in wmv format). You can see additional video clips from the 2003 trip here. These videos have been compressed for viewing online so the quality isn't that great. If you'd like the full quality versions in DVD format let me know and I'd be happy to mail you a copy. |
